Richard Blake, Associate Critic
Richard has been an active member of the Performing Arts Community for over 20 years. He began his career as a Professional Actor on stage, screen and television. Coming to Texas from the Chicagoland area, he has continued his long career as an Award Winning Producer, Director, Actor and Production Designer in the DFW Metroplex. He is excited to be a part of the COLUMN Organization and looks forward to working with and around such amazing talent.
Richard holds a Degree in International Business Marketing and Management with an emphasis in Theatre Arts/Production. This afforded him the opportunity to own his own businesses, a chain of Scuba Diving Training facilities around the Gulf Coast, as well as, greater understandings of Arts Organization's needs, wants and organizational structures.
Richard has Directed World Premiere works such as And All His Songs Were Sad and an International Gala in Ft. Worth, and productions of The Full Monty & Barefoot In The Park in Chicago, She Loves Me in Philadelphia. As an Actor, you may have seen him recently as "Judas" in Godspell at ONSTAGE In Bedford this summer or his Award Winning portrayal of "Stanley" in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Mesquite Community Theatre. His latest forte' into film was as Art Director and Property Master for the recently released feature film Searching for Sonny starring Minka Kelly of Friday Night Lights, Jason Dohring of Veronica Mars, Masi Oka of HEROS and Michael Hogan of Battlestar Galatica! Some of his most memorable stage and screen productions as an Actor were "Adam/Noah" in Children of Eden; The "Teacher" in Schoolhouse Rock LIVE!; The "Prince/Beast" in Disney's Beauty and the Beast; "Lloyd" in Noises OFF!; and "Andrew" in Early Edition-CBS Television.
Richard is an active Professional Member in good standing of; The Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County Grants Committee, The Dallas Producers Association (DPA), American Association of Community Theatre (AACT), United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), Texas Nonprofit Theatres (TNT) and various other Community Organizations that benefit youth and young adults on a volunteer basis. He is also proud and humbled to be the first recipient of the Rudy Seppy Volunteer Service COLUMNAward presented to him by Mrs. Rudy Seppy. It will always hold a special place in his heart and was a catalyst for much of his service to the local Arts Community today!
